Trusted Legal Guidance for Your U.S. Citizenship Journey

At Powers Immigration Law, we proudly assist permanent residents ready to take the final step in their immigration journey—becoming a U.S. citizen. If you are eligible for naturalization, our firm provides clear, supportive legal guidance to help you prepare for and complete the citizenship process with confidence.

What Is Naturalization?

Naturalization is the legal process through which a lawful permanent resident (green card holder) becomes a U.S. citizen. Citizenship offers many benefits, including the right to vote, U.S. passport eligibility, protection from deportation, and the ability to petition for certain family members.

Naturalization Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for naturalization, most applicants must meet the following general requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Have been a lawful permanent resident (green card holder) for at least 5 years (or 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen)

  • Demonstrate continuous residence and physical presence in the U.S.

  • Show good moral character

  • Pass English and civics exams (with some exceptions)

  • Take the Oath of Allegiance to the United States

Additional considerations may apply for applicants with criminal records, extended travel outside the U.S., or past immigration violations. Our firm can help assess your case and identify any issues before you apply.
